How To Get An Out Of State Car Registered In Nc

  • #1

Thinking of buying a truck that'due south currently registered in VA. Does anyone have experience on what hoops I demand to jump through in NC to get information technology titled and a plate?

The inspection requirement has me confused. How do I drive information technology home for inspection earlier I can get a plate without a plate??? Seems like a take hold of-22 to me.

I saw an FAQ from the DMV that says the following but this would advise I am the actual possessor from out of country which I am of course not.

17. I'k moving to Due north Carolina from another land. Will my vehicle demand to exist
inspected before I obtain my North Carolina license plate?
You volition exist allowed to register the vehicle without an inspection. When your adjacent annual
registration renewal is due, you must have the vehicle inspected to renew your
registration.

There was likewise an FAQ about getting a 10 mean solar day let to bulldoze it home, only I asked about this a few years ago and the land people had no clue WTF I was talking about. I am a fleck worried that hasn't improved.

Does anyone take actual first hand experience doing this?

Don't know about VA but bought a truck from FL and all I needed was notarized title, a bill of auction and proof of insurance.

when the vehicle is coming from va to nc. yous will demand to have the title notarized. I just bought a truck from nc and all I needed here in va was a bill of sale to take to dmv. va doesn't require the championship to be notarized.

VA titles do not need to be notarized, even if coming to NC.

I had to accept the title notarized. I put it on my insurance and collection it home on his license plate with a bill of sale. Mailed his plate dorsum to him. It had to be inspected inside 30 days of the title transfer and new tags, but that was before they changed everything.

Aye, my worry is it's all changed in the terminal 3-iv years. The darn inspection needs to happen earlier they'll upshot a plate I think. Fawking NC!!! The morons at the DMV don't seem to think about these things - or rather I gauge they don't intendance. I am thinking maybe I'll have to have the seller deliver it to me and and so in one case I accept it home I can manage to bulldoze a couple miles to the inspection station and just hope I don't go stopped or wreck. I'd love to hear how anyone has done this in the last year or ii. Just to be clear, this is from VA to NC. Non the other way around every bit a couple have mentioned.

I have always got a beak of auction and signed title put it on my insurance and drove them home. IF I was stopped I just showed them that I had just bought it. Never had a problem.

I call up that if the vehicle is more than x years old, the title doesn't *accept* to be notarized. Also, if it'due south less than 10 years old, the seller will take to sign an odometer disclosure form.

Co-ordinate to the DMV website, the title and the title application both need to exist notarized.

the bigger concern is that the vehicle is insured, bill of sale and notarized title volition support that it has only been purchased, you may still go a ticket for no tag/registration, which would (should) be nullified in one case you got inspected and tagged and went to court ( aye, it's the long mode around, but information technology's thier game )

The basic thing I've been told, equally for getting an out of state, or "united nations-inspected" vehicle, you may drive it, with title, to an Inspection Station. Pass inspection, the utilise for tag, & new registration.
That's what my friend was told & did, upon buy of a SC truck.

I just went to VA and got my xj. Hither is what yous do. You buy information technology get a neb of sale and title. Title doesn't accept to exist notarized. If you buy a vehicle out of country it doesn't have to be inspected to get a tag! ONLY IF YOU Buy THE VEHICLE OUT OF Land!! So yous take the title down to the wonderful people at the tag part and you pay for your title tag and taxes. So you drive off. When you tag runs out and so you go information technology inspected!!

This is correct. I've done it twice in the past twelvemonth with SC and FL vehicles.

just be sure it has a VA championship, I just bought a truck in VA, just information technology had a championship from LA (which requires a notarization....which you cannot become done in a small town on a sunday).

Every bit stated, as long as the title meets the requirements of the state the current championship is in, you are 100%.
